Finding Clarity and Direction Through Values and How You Want to Feel.

Clarity doesn’t come from doing more or negative comparison.
It comes from knowing what actually matters to you—and how you want your life to feel.

Many people chase goals that look good on the outside but feel empty on the inside. That’s often because the goal wasn’t rooted in their values or their emotional needs—it was built from pressure, comparison, or expectation.

What Are Values, Really?

Your values are the principles that quietly guide your decisions and your choices.
They show up in what you protect, what you avoid, and what makes you feel proud—or uncomfortable.

Some examples:

  • Freedom

  • Stability

  • Growth

  • Peace

  • Connection

  • Creativity

  • Integrity

  • Security

There is no “right” set of values. What matters is that yours are honest.

Ask yourself:

  • When do I feel most like myself?

  • What do I deeply respect in other people?

  • What do I feel angry or sad about when it’s missing?

Those answers point to your values.

When your life is out of alignment with your values, you often feel:

  • Restless

  • Unmotivated

  • Confused

  • Disconnected

Not because you’re broken—but because something important isn’t being honoured.

The Emotions You Want to Live Inside

Direction isn’t just about what you do—it’s about how you want to feel while doing it.

Instead of only asking, “What do I want to achieve?”
Try asking, “How do I want my life to feel? ”

Some people want to feel:

  • Calm

  • Confident

  • Free

  • Grounded

  • Energized

  • Safe

  • Inspired

  • Present

  • Abundant

  • Love

  • Grateful

  • Purposeful

These emotional desires are powerful guides.

For example:

  • If you want to feel calm, your direction may involve learning to calm your nervous system and build habits to support your wellbeing.

  • If you want to feel confident, your direction may involve learning, practicing and building your self-worth and boundaries.

  • If you want to feel free, your direction may involve flexibility, creativity, and choice.

Your goals should support your emotional needs—not fight against them.

Bringing Values and Feelings Together

Clarity comes when your actions match both:

  • What matters to you

  • How you want to feel

Try this simple reflection:

  1. Write down 3–5 values that matter most to you right now.

  2. Write down 3 emotions you want your life to feel like more often.

  3. Look at your current life and ask:

    • What supports these?

    • What quietly works against them?

You don’t need to change everything at once. Choose 2 new habits to support the life that is aligned with your values and how you want to feel. Most importantly implement the new habits.
Remember direction often begins with small shifts—tiny choices that honour who you are and how you want to feel.

When your life starts to match your values and emotional needs, life can feel calmer, clearer and more fulfilling.
