Why You Feel Stuck (Even When You Know What to Do)
You already know what to do.
You’ve read the advice. You’ve made the plan. You’ve even told yourself, “I’ll start tomorrow.”
But somehow… you don’t.
Instead, you hesitate. You overthink. You put it off. And then you feel frustrated with yourself for being “stuck.” You may even feel a little sick at the thought of taking the first step.
If this sounds familiar, there’s something important to understand:
You’re not stuck because you don’t know enough.
You’re stuck because something inside you doesn’t feel ready to move.
The Real Reason You Feel Stuck
Most people assume being stuck is about:
lack of motivation
lack of discipline
or even laziness
But in reality, it’s usually a form of internal resistance.
Part of you wants to move forward.
Another part of you is holding back.
And that second part is often trying to protect you—from:
making the wrong decision
being judged
failing or getting it wrong
stepping into something unfamiliar
So instead of taking action, your system keeps you in a loop of:
thinking
planning
waiting
Not because you’re incapable—but because you don’t feel fully safe to move.
Why Overthinking Keeps You Stuck
When you don’t feel certain, your mind tries to solve it by thinking more.
You tell yourself:
“I just need more clarity”
“I need to figure this out properly first”
But the more you think, the more overwhelmed you feel.
And the more overwhelmed you feel, the harder it becomes to take action.
So you stay stuck—not for lack of answers, but because you’re stuck in the process of trying to find them.
What Actually Helps You Move Forward
Getting unstuck isn’t about forcing yourself to act.
It’s about creating the internal conditions that make action feel possible.
That looks like:
1. Regulating your state
When you feel calmer and more grounded, decisions feel less overwhelming. They feel safe and natural to take.
2. Letting go of “perfect” decisions
You don’t need certainty to move forward—you need willingness. You need to be okay with not being “perfect”.
3. Taking smaller, safer steps
. Big actions will feel intimidating. Small ones will build momentum.
4. Building self-trust
The more you follow through, the more confident you feel in yourself.
A Different Way to Think About Progress
Instead of asking:
“What’s the perfect next step?”
Try asking:
“What feels like a safe and supportive next step?”
This shifts you out of pressure and into movement.
Because progress doesn’t come from forcing yourself forward.
It comes from working with yourself.
You’re Not as Stuck as You Think
Feeling stuck can make you question yourself.
But often, it just means:
you’re overwhelmed
you’re overthinking
or your system needs support before it’s ready to move
When you address that, things start to shift.
More clarity. More ease. More action.
